YOUR TAXES

Tax Rebates Now Arriving

If you qualify, and you filed your 2007 federal return, the good news is that you don't need to do a thing to receive your tax rebate this year.

You don't need to complete applications, file any extra forms, or call the Internal Revenue Service to request the tax rebate payment. You will receive it automatically. The IRS determines your eligibility, computes the amount, and for those of you who chose the Direct Deposit option on the 2007 federal return, tax rebate payments began arriving in bank accounts on April 29. For taxpayers who filed by April 15, all direct deposits should be completed by May 16.

For those qualifying taxpayers who did not choose Direct Deposit of their federal tax refund, or had a balance due, or chose a refund settlement product such as Simple Pay, a Refund Anticipation Loan or Refund Anticipation Check, mailed checks will begin to go out starting May 9, a week earlier than originally scheduled.

When You Can Expect Your Tax Rebate?

Distribution of tax rebate payments is based on the last two digits of your Social Security Number; for joint returns, it's the first Social Security Number listed on your federal return.

Tax Rebate Schedule

Helpful Hint #1: Make sure the IRS has your current mailing address. If you move anytime after you filed your 2007 tax return, notify the IRS of your new address immediately by filing Form 8822, Address Change Request so your tax rebate check is not delayed.

Helpful Hint #2: If you file after April 15, but by Oct. 15, 2008, you will still receive your tax rebate this year if you qualify. Your rebate will be received approximately two weeks after receiving your federal tax refund.
