Who Is Better Equipped?

We are all wired differently. This is the main reason some folks can't budget. They are well meaning folks who have no problem spending but can't pay the bills. For whatever the reason, I think they get some sort of gratification in buying, they are lacking the budget/save mentality. I recall a friend who married and soon discovered that his spouse had an addiction to the Home Shopping Network. Months after the marriage he was still finding items hidden all around that his wife purchased. Since they were hidden, I suspect that they weren't needed. Just impulse buying. As for myself, we have seperate checking accounts. I have amassed a fortunate, all the while paying for private schools, mortgages, and the bills in general. While her consumption is fueled by her earnings, most of the spending is not critical and or for any of urgent need. So frugal people should always be put in charge of building a future. I have no idea if anyone that is predisposed to spend like a drunken sailor can ever change and or get it out of their system.
